The Friends of the Campbell Library began in 1975 when the library moved to its current building across from the Campbell City Hall. Previously the library had been housed in the structure on the corner of Campbell and Central Avenues, presently occupied by the Orchard Valley Roasting Company.
Barbara Conant served as the first president of the Friends.
The group was initiated to support the library through fundraising and other volunteer services. Since its beginning, the Friends’ financial support of the library has been primarily through book sales.
In 1989 when the Library expanded to allow public access to the lower level of the building, the Friends obtained use of a small section where their book sales were held.
From its beginning the Friends have supported the Campbell Library by sponsoring programs open to the public, buying books, DVDs, magazines and other library materials. They have also purchased furniture, shelving and equipment which the library otherwise would not be able to buy.
Book donations to the Friends are gratefully received. Current information on where to drop off donations can be found here.
